The Box About After Surreal I began writing another EP, but I ended up procrastinating for too long and could never find the energy to record it. Some of these songs ended up having parts used in other future songs (such as Southampton and Recovery). However, before the second EP was written I wrote a song called ‘The Box’ and completely finished it. Since I had no new music to release in 2018 I decided to release The Box as a single. Lyrics Hover over the lyrics for the annotations. I’m a mess, I’m a bore, I’ll give you love, but you probably want more. Maybe we could work out? But if we don’t I lose out. What’s in the box? What’s in the box? Honestly, it’s lost on me. All I wanna do is rip off your clothes. Like I said I’m a mess, but don’t you dare tell…

5 – Lifeboat About Lifeboat is the last track on my EP Surreal. It’s a short instrumental track written to demonstrate how I wanted to write more ambient pieces of music. Lyrics Lifeboat is an interlude and therefore does not have any lyrics. The writing process At one point while writing another song I ended up playing this tune on the piano for about half an hour. That same melody turned into Lifeboat. I find it to be really simple, yet beautiful. I ended up working on the melody a little bit more, but I ended up getting stuck on how to develop it further. However, I really liked it and I wanted to have it on the record, plus I had always wanted to start writing more instrumental tracks. I placed it at the end of the EP to represent hope, so despite the EP getting more and more…

4 – Overdose About Overdose is fourth track on the Surreal EP. It was written to be a slower song about heartbreak with an epic guitar solo at the end. Lyrics Hover over the lyrics for the annotations. Where is your heart and where is my head? Where are the words to come and summon you up? And where are the words to come and fight off the dark? Babe it feels like an overdose and babe I can’t do this all alone. How am I lost? And how are you somebody else? I’m counting the houses on memory lane, the doors are all shut ’cause it’s all in my brain. Babe it feels like an overdose and babe I can’t do this all alone. Babe it feels like an overdose and babe I can’t do this all alone. Babe it feels like an overdose and babe I can’t do…

2 – Berg About Berg is the second song on Surreal, it was inspired by bands like Angels & Airwaves and Blink 182. Lyrics Hover over the lyrics for the annotations. He’s got a gun and a lady But all he talks about is Hayley Getting big for his boots, he’s still lost in his room He’s got his face on the big screen an internet celebrity, but he’s doing it wrong. He should stick to writing songs. Captain we’re sinking will you please plug the hole? I’m sorry you’re hurting, but the iceberg’s gotta go. It’s gotta go! He’s got a gun and a sunrise He’s been trying to meet all the deadlines Just a hideous mess, he’ll go and hide in her chest He’s got the words now he’s sober, this northern escapade is over. He thinks they should break up, he really needs to find love. Captain…

1 – Alright About Alright is the first song on the EP, but it was actually the last one I wrote. The song is really upbeat and fun, but the lyrics are about heartbreak and as depressing as you’d expect. I love the opening synth, along with The Permanent Blue it’s one of my favourite melodies/riffs I’ve written. Lyrics Hover over the lyrics for the annotations. She, well she left me out to bleed Recovery is just starting I break my bones to feel at home I sail alone it’s all I know I white lie I’m alright, alright And why would I cry? I’m alright, alright Red, paint her red to forget Lost in bed avoiding stress My words are false Increase her pulse And save our souls for someone else I white lie I’m alright, alright And why would I cry? I’m alright, alright Slowdown.. I’m alright, alright…
