About

Overdose is fourth track on the Surreal EP. It was written to be a slower song about heartbreak with an epic guitar solo at the end.

Where is your heart and where is my head?
Where are the words to come and summon you up?
And where are the words to come and fight off the dark?

Babe it feels like an overdose and babe I can’t do this all alone.

How am I lost? And how are you somebody else?
I’m counting the houses on memory lane, the doors are all shut ’cause it’s all in my brain.

Babe it feels like an overdose and babe I can’t do this all alone.

Babe it feels like an overdose and babe I can’t do this all alone.

Babe it feels like an overdose and babe I can’t do this all alone.
Babe it feels like an overdose and babe I can’t do this all alone.

The writing process

Overdose was meant to be my first ballad and a calm moment after the first three louder tracks. I tried to go for a subtler vocal and hardly any drums, the song itself is quite simple since it’s mostly synth driven.

I really like the guitar solo in this song, it’s really fun to play. I feel like it did the trick, but I think I should have had the band come in for the solo as well.

This is the first part of the EP where it gets truly depressing.

Other notes

  • This was the second song I finished on the EP.
  • For the first half of the EP, live drums were recorded. However, Overdose uses a midi-kit.
  • The song was kind of inspired by The 1975’s Me, but I wanted to replace the saxophone with a guitar solo.
